Tesla in California: the eco-friendly imprint of the automotive sector

In honor of an electronic engineer recognized for developing alternating current systems, the Tesla brand was born under a differentiating seal from the rest of the factories of its type and is nothing more than the promotion of environmental responsibility in the company of the development of innovation. With just over 20 years of presence in the market, it is currently a leading company in the transition towards a more sustainable future.

Established as one of the most successful firms in the world, it not only continues to expand its capital around the world but has also been increasing its sales levels on a sustained basis. According to published data, a delivery record was broken in 2022 with more than 1.31 million vehicles, which represents an increase of 40% compared to the previous year. During the last quarter of the year, more than 405,000 vehicles were delivered worldwide.

Tesla Motors' main dish, electric cars

It is an American electric car company founded in 2003. Since its inception, Tesla has been committed to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the production of highly energy-efficient electric vehicles. The company has developed a wide range of electric cars, as well as manufacturing electric trucks and buses. Its commercial proposal also incorporates solar energy systems and energy storage.

As part of its sales strategy, it also implemented a network of fast charging stations, known as Supercharger, in order to facilitate the recharging of its vehicles in every corner of the planet.
In order to generate a different experience for its consumers, Tesla carries out temporary displays of its cars in crowded shopping centers, to provide customer service in a more direct and personalized way.

The 3 steps of the magic recipe for Tesla

  • Start manufacturing a few units at a high price - with the Tesla Roadster model - to show that this class of cars could be fast, light, aesthetic and with great autonomy. It manufactured 500 units a year. This production strategy generated a kind of multiplier effect even in competing firms, such as General Motors and Nissan, making them interested in the renewable energy industry.
  • Manufacture a vehicle in greater volume of units and at a less expensive price. This was the driving force for the development of the Tesla Model S, which served to mark a more solid presence within the automotive market. The Tesla Model X was designed on the same platform.
  • Produce vehicles in large volume and at an affordable price. The recognition that Tesla achieved with his previous creations allowed him to carry out the Tesla Model 3 project. Later came the Tesla Model Y.

Made in Fremont, California

In case you didn't know, one of the commercial strategies that make up the business model of Tesla places the factories and their sales centers within sight of their target audiences, ensuring that the firm is present in the most important cities in North America, Europe and Asia -or in the most luxurious areas of them-.

In the industrial area of Fremont - a city in California - one of the best-known Tesla factories in the United States was established. There, sheet metal cutting and pressing, plastic injection, body assembly, painting, battery pack manufacturing, final assembly and quality control testing are carried out. From the point of view of design and usefulness for its employees, it was decided to install numerous skylights and varnish the walls and floors in white, in order to increase the entry of natural light into its facilities.

All batches of stamped and aluminum parts, added to 90% of the plastic parts of the Model S, are manufactured in this plant. At least until October 2022, entry to the facilities to see it inside was restricted due to Covid-19. This is why Alejandro Jatib, founder and CEO of Lab9, managed to capture some images of the exterior of the Californian headquarters to let us know a little more about this automotive giant.

Beyond the positive results achieved at Tesla in Fremont, at the moment the Shanghai production plant - baptized as “Gigafactory” - continues to grow exponentially in terms of numbers of units sold. In fact, this headquarters managed to manufacture more vehicles in a week than Fremont did in a month.
